Inside NC: The NC Folk Podcast Series
In 2016, NC Folk produced its first podcast. Inside NC is a podcast designed to highlight lesser known artists, tourist destinations and communities around North Carolina. Working from the idea that every community has people, places and things to celebrate, Inside NC focuses closely on smaller, mostly rural communities across North Carolina that prove that there is an amazing depth of talent, culture and history often hiding out in the open.
Inside NC highlights stories that are unique to specific NC communities. Our first Inside NC podcast focuses on Warren and Halifax Counties, in the Eastern part of the state, riding the Virginia border. The six episodes in this podcast celebrate remarkable individuals, community institutions, and historical milestones in Warren and Halifax history. They celebrate a sense of place.
But NC Folk also hopes to demonstrate that every community in the Old North State can add their own stories to our folk and traditional arts landscape. Inside NC hopes to offer a view into the remarkable communities that are North Carolina.
It is our hope that our audience is inspired by Inside NC, to seek out the artists featured, and to seek out their own community culture heroes. Inside NC’s first 6 episodes will be released one per month, starting on February 15, 2017. Please sign up for the NC Folk newsletter, Folklife Flashes, to receive notification and other important NC Folk updates.
NC Folk wishes to thank our independent producer Joe O’Connell for creating these podcasts. In addition, this podcast would not be possible without support from Resourceful Communities and the North Carolina Arts Council.
