North Carolina Heritage Award
The North Carolina Arts Council created the Heritage Award program in 1989 to recognize outstanding traditional artists with a lifetime achievement award. Since that time, more than one hundred North Carolinians from our state's music, craft, dance, and narrative traditions, among others, have received recognition. These recipients have spent their lives learning and honing their artistry. They are elders within their traditions who are widely respected for their skills and knowledge.
Over the next weeks, the North Carolina Folklife Institute will be posting on this website Powerpoint slide-show presentations about many of the artists who have received the Heritage Award.
To view the presentations, click on a link below to download a file. When the download is complete, open the file in Microsoft Powerpoint. The files are large, and may best be downloaded through Internet Explorer.
